PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
